CES is one of the most important technology trade shows, but its allure seems to be wearing off for Microsoft. The company has announced that it would be participating in the trade show for the last time in 2012 and would not be making any further appearances.
Microsoft would still continue to use the platform for networking but it would not deliver any keynotes or booths after 2012. The company explained: "We won't have a keynote or booth after this year because our product news milestones generally don't align with the show's January timing." The company has been associated with the show for last 20 years.
If you are thinking that Microsoft will make an exit with bang and would deliver some cracking news at CES 2012, then you are going to be sadly disappointed. In an interview with Engadget, the company said that it would not be delivering any 'significant news' at 2012 and its presentation would be more on the lines of wrapping up its works in 2011. CEO Ballmer is likely to talk about Windows Phone, Microsoft Office, Bing and Xbox during his keynote address.
Microsoft has not announced any further plans. But industry rumors suggest that the company may take a leaf from Apple's workbook and may be planning to hold its own conferences in the future.
