Whether you like Star Wars or not George Lucas is making sure it's here to stay. First, rather predictably it was announced that the franchise was to hit Blu-Ray and now even before a single Blu-Ray version has been released there's already confirmation that the Star Wars series is to be resurrected in full, glorious 3D.
The Hollywood Reporter claimed that sources are saying George Lucas definitely intends to refill his money pit by bringing out the movies, one each year, in 3D starting from 2012.
And an official statement on the Star Wars website confirmed the news, stating: “The cutting edge conversion will take that immersion to the next thrilling level.”
Lucas is said to have been considering a move to 3D for a while and was moved to greenlight the process after experiencing Avatar and considering that by the time the movies hit theaters, and eventually homes, there will be more than enough capable screens to watch them on.
There's been mixed reactions from fans with many fearing that the re-release could ruin the film’s legacy. But Lucas and co have reassured fans that they will not rush the films and will make sure they are up to scratch when they hit the big screens again.
“It takes a critical and artistic eye along with an incredible attention to detail to be successful. It is not something that you can rush if you want to expect good results. For Star Wars we will take our time, applying everything we know both aesthetically and technically to bring audiences a fantastic new Star Wars experience.” They said.
