FaceTime to land on second gen iPad by Christmas?

Apple is sure they are onto something special with FaceTime and are eager to push it across their full range of products. Who'd have thought it? An MP3 player with face to face video calling, well it's here and now that Apple's latest bit of software is on the iPod touch surely it won't be long until it jumps up to the big bad iPad which seems perfect for video calling (or at least it will when it gets the cameras it's expected to get when it hits the second generation.)

The second generation iPad was expected to land around April time in 2011 (which would follow the pattern that Apple uses for new models of the iPhone) However, the rumours are that in November when iOS 4.2 for iPad launches, a whole new iPad could launch too, with FaceTime.

Along with the front and back facing cameras, improved RAM (from 256MB to 512MB) and a higher resolution display are expected.

It also seems likely that Apple could release some sort of external camera for the first gen iPad which would help ease the pain for iPad owners who will be left with an old device come the release of the 2nd iPad.

There is nothing confirmed yet and we are dealing purely with rumours but the iPod touch camera rumours proved true and by the looks of their ad campaign and the whispers around camp Apple are taking FaceTime very seriously.
