Microsoft is embarking on one of its most important years during its lengthy history - this year, for the first time, they are going to release a new operating system for PC, phones, tablets and laptops - Windows 8 represents a first for Microsoft, they’re are looking to create an all encompassing software eco-system for all devices – for the first time the whole of Microsoft is looking to sing from the same digital hymn sheet.
Not only has Microsoft finally unveiled its attempt at de-throne Apple’s iPad with their Surface tablet, the software giant lifted the lid on Windows Phone 8 - the latest update to their mobile operating system.
At an invite-only press conference in Los Angeles last night Microsoft's CEO Steve Ballmer unveiled the software giant's answer to the iPad - called Surface – the two new Windows-based tablets are set to be released this Autumn.
Microsoft were first to kick off this year’s E3 in Los Angeles and while Microsoft’s presentation was as slick as you’d expect you couldn’t help but think they were holding back. There was no next Xbox, yet, but they did show off a multitude of new games, new partnerships and apps for Xbox Live.
It's a big time of year for the big three console makers as E3 is less than a month away, and with all three manufacturers seemingly having one eye on the next generation – it's hard not to speculate about the impending announcements.
