Recovering from his controversial adventure on Isle Delfino, where we helped him out in Super Mario Sunshine back in 2002, we now see Mario returning on Nintendo’s new console and this time it’s an ‘out of this world’ adventure.
Being classed as the first game on the Wii to take full advantage of its graphical potential, I was rather curious on what to expect as I slotted the game disc into my Wii drive.
What I can tell you is that it will not disappoint! From the first moment you start playing the game your hit by the fact that this is somehow running on the Wii at perfect frames per second. That coupled with some astounding physics that I don’t think has ever been done so nicely on a console or even a PC game before, it certainly can be given a well rounded thumbs up.
Aside from the graphics, which let's face it does not really make a game enjoyable, the gameplay itself is still in true Mario style and you will be constantly quoting the gamers number one line, “Just another level” until you realise its 6AM but still playing it until you have to reluctantly trudge off to work, still wanting more.
The gameplay flows nicely and with the combination of the Wii remote and Nunchuk, the game never suffers from the dreaded ‘clumsy controls’ condition.
All in all, this game is definitely one to add to your Wii collection or the reason you buy a Wii yourself. It’s a non-stop rollercoaster ride with you firmly in control of the action at all times. Be prepared to say goodbye to your loved ones…for at least a fortnight!
