Let’s find out more about whether it can compete with the big guys in the plasma world in terms of design, performance and features.
Review
Although the design isn’t as inspiring and stylish as other models on the market, its attention to detail and light weight yet robust design compensates for this. With all analogue and digital options present, the connectivity is superb. High-definition sources can be directly connected using two HDMI digital video inputs or by using an adaptor with the analogue component or PC input, meaning you can connect up to four HD sources at the same time. Standard definition users can use the two Scart terminals, for recording devices or satellite/cable receivers or the component inputs. Both Scarts are RGB-enabled so the quality of the incoming signals will not be compromised. The bog standard easy-access AV inputs are best set aside for short-term connections like a camcorder or games console, as quality is poor. You can also use the screen as a large monitor when connected to a PC or media centre.
The screen features a ‘Full HD’ resolution that provides you with 1920×1,080-pixel resolution and means you can display standard 720p and 1080i high-definition formats without any of the downsizing. Sony have also taken the future into consideration by making the screen compatible to accept the latest 1080p format being used by next-generation devices like Blu-ray/HD DVD players and the PS3 games console. The picture processing consists of Bravia Engine Technology, specifically designed for LCD. It lives up to its expectation offers excellent image performance and includes supporting systems such as Live Colour creation.
It is very user friendly and just to name a few things, its on screen menu options it offers a seven day electronic guide which is easy to use with its stylish remote and its more advanced setting controls, such as a sensor that automatically adjust according to your room light and mood. Sound options are supplemented by a BBE digital audio system and a SRS TruSurround XT mode that creates a sense of spaciousness from the stereo speakers.
This little number is certainly going to dominate the LCD market and prove to potential competition for the plasma TV. Its colour and contrast reproduction is amazing creating immaculately defined images and creates a more natural balance without losing its vibrancy. The picture performance is outstanding for both standard and high definitions images. What’s particularly impressive is the high definition images which offer outstanding detail.
However, the only bad thing is the design, although we love it for it’s functionality and performance, we can’t help wishing that it would scale higher in the style stakes. The design is a bit bland compared to others on the market and the fixed stand does not offer great functionality to store all your technical accessories.

We say: With its ease of use and its anti dust and shake innovation; it’s hard to say anything wrong about this D-SLR. However, this camera will come at a price and if you’re prepared to make that extra expensive investment then this camera is the one for you.
