A tour of XP Mode

In an article I wrote about XP Mode, I said at the bottom that as soon as I could get my hands on the various bits of software, I would post. Slightly later than anticipated here we go. For the people out there who have yet to hear of the miracle that is XP Mode, you can think of it as an extension of Microsofts Virtual PC. As well as being an update to Virtual PC, it also has the added benefit of publishing apps installed on the virtual machine to the host. This means that if you have an application that is incompatible with Windows 7, you can still run it as if it were native. Still confused? Lets go through it.

New Mac worm more a damp squib

Do you know a Mac fan? I’m sure you do, and if you don’t they are easy to spot. They tend to be the ones who extol the virtues of their OS rather thanempathize with you when you think your PC is a conduit for nob pill emails, and DDoS attacks.

Pandas new cloud AV

I have often recommended Pandas security suite, among others, to those who may ask my opinion. However, Panda seems to have been slipping down the AV rankings as of late, with Norton, McAfee, and Kaspersky heading things up. eBox, the perfect home server?

Some time ago now, I bought a Dell SC440 Power Edge server. Not because I needed it per se, more because I wanted it. And as any gadget fan will tell you, thats the reason most of these purchases happen. When it arrived, I had to choose an OS. As WHS is too pricey for my liking, I turned to penguin land, and Ubuntu in particular.

An absolute tech junky, I graduated from the University of Manchester with a degree in Computing and now live on the outskirts of Leeds working with you guessed it, Computers. I love all things gadgety but really dislike wires. For those of you who haven’t worked it out the name of the site is a combination of my nickname (Gaj) and the pronunciation ‘Gadget’.
