Scary kids toy of the week- The Gloomy Bear Arm Pillow

gloomy bearI think I’m falling into a routine on Gaj-it. Pillows and robots. Which could be a funny sit com…

Anyway, this one is weird.

Teddy bears. Say it and it conjures up cute fuzzy things that some women receive from their men on Valentines Day (I say some- I got ‘Lost Odyssey’ for the Xbox 360!). They normally have big eyes and an innate hugability. Except this one. Follow the link to the funny pulse website product page, and you’ll see the only product I can think of publicised with a cartoon of a pink bear savagely mauling a small child.

Actually the product looks pretty fun. It’s a stuffed arm with bloody claws which you can put on and stomp around pretending to be a grizzly bear. You could try find an over sized mascot head and use it as this years Halloween costume. Or you could make out that you’re a very girly version of Wolverine…

Then when you tire yourself out hunting whatever it is that bears hunt these days (can they still hunt or has it been stopped under health and safety laws?) you simply throw the pillow down and fall asleep where you stand.

Aww. The cuteness potential…

gloomy bearUnfortunatly I can’t find them available from anywhere except the Japanese product page. Which is a shame because I actually really want one, and I’m not entirely sure why. Or what 40,000 yen translates into. Which makes it a good product, or at least a good conversation starter. I’ll just have to console myself with the rather scary website of the characters creator, where you can find out that Gloomy Bear weights as much as two hundred pomegranates. If you can get past the opening flash animation anyway- it goes pixelated at points, and considering the context I DO NOT want to imagine why…

An absolute tech junky, I graduated from the University of Manchester with a degree in Computing and now live on the outskirts of Leeds working with you guessed it, Computers. I love all things gadgety but really dislike wires. For those of you who haven’t worked it out the name of the site is a combination of my nickname (Gaj) and the pronunciation ‘Gadget’.
