Husqvarna Automower 260 ACX – robot lawnmower that will text for help

As you’ve probably noticed by now we’re big fans of robots around here, so one to cut our grass sounds just dandy to us – enter the Automower 260 ACX from Husqvarna….new-husqvarna-robot-lawnmower2

Whilst this isn’t the first robot mower to be offered by the Stockholm based company, it is the first that will be happy to drop you a text if it comes a cropper whilst performing its duties.

This latest addition to the Automower range promises to be both larger and zippier than it’s range counterparts and also comes with the added bonus of GSM capability, which is how it sends that SMS alert.

new-husqvarna-robot-lawnmowerThe weather-proof, battery-powered 260 ACX can handle gradients of up to 35% with no drama and makes good use of ultrasonic technology to avoid collisions whilst it’s cutting. The SMS-happy little fella is good for roughly 60 minutes of cutting from one full charge and when it’s feeling low it simply returns itself to its docking station, takes a 40 minute nap and then is fit to carry on again.

Thankfully, it comes with a couple of useful safety and security features including an auto-power off (in the event of being removed from the ground) and a 4 digit PIN code system that is required for operation. It’ll even fertilise the lawn using the cuttings, which is another nice touch.

Sounds pretty cool huh!? Well, here it comes, at around €4000 Euro it’s not going to be the most widely gifted present for ‘the person who has everything’ but for those who share our passion for robots and laziness, is this lawn mowing nirvana?

  • ‘hlp mastr. I haz g0t stuk on a grdn 4rk’

If you got the robomop and the robolawnmower, who else would be tempted to race them…?

  • I like the way it works, which besides trimming the unwanted grass, will also alert the owner if it encounters any major issues via an SMS.

An absolute tech junky, I graduated from the University of Manchester with a degree in Computing and now live on the outskirts of Leeds working with you guessed it, Computers. I love all things gadgety but really dislike wires. For those of you who haven’t worked it out the name of the site is a combination of my nickname (Gaj) and the pronunciation ‘Gadget’.
