Hot news in from CTIA Wireless event in Las Vegas has revealed that RIM’s answer to the iTunes app store - known as Blackberry App World is now live for compatible Blackberry devices.blackberry-app-world

The store is downloadable straight to your handsets and by the end of the week should feature more than 1000 apps to download.

The interface itself has a ‘Featured’ section highlighting new downloads as well as a ‘Top Downloads’ which allows you to see which apps have been the most downloaded but if you still can’t find what you’re looking for there’s always the ubiquitous search function.

The store is offering provision for downloaders to provide reviews and star ratings to help potential purchasers make up their minds.

As well as taking a smaller cut from developers, the Blackberry App World differs a little from Nokia’s and Apple’s offerings as it provides a percentage of the profits to the mobile carriers themselves.

Oh and we’ve just heard that already present in the line up of launch-day apps is the popular music identification service Shazam, so what are you Blackberry owners waiting for, head on over to the Blackberry site to download the software and start adding apps until your heart, or wallet, is content.

An absolute tech junky, I graduated from the University of Manchester with a degree in Computing and now live on the outskirts of Leeds working with you guessed it, Computers. I love all things gadgety but really dislike wires. For those of you who haven’t worked it out the name of the site is a combination of my nickname (Gaj) and the pronunciation ‘Gadget’.
