Robomop- surely a student essential?

robomop We have the technology, we can rebuild him….

Ok so that was the Million Dollar Man, but I can’t think of any Robocop quotes right now. Actually the only ones I can think of are ‘You’re dead! We killed you!’ and ‘Dead or Alive you’re coming with me’. But they’re not really appropriate when I’m going to tell you about a glorified cleaning utensil…

I’ve been having a robot theme this week, as you might have noticed. I keep finding these wonderful inventions that may be in your house sometime possibly in the future hopefully. So I thought I’d introduce you all to a robot you can actually own right now.

The Robomop is pretty much what you’d expect. It doesn’t look cool and futuristic (it’s only 2008 after all) but it is an actual robot you can set cleaning your kitchen floor (or any floor really as long as it isn’t carpeted). This version is the Robomop Softbase and can clean a 60 square meter area in one hour with 98% accuracy. That’s better than most people my age can do let me tell you! It’s small enough to get underneath sofas, tables and beds, and right into the corners when the cupboards meet the floor. And he’s mains rechargeable so you don’t have to spend a million pounds a week in Poundland buying batteries!

(I just called it he- the robots are becoming like us!)

The Robomop has a ‘movement brain’ which means he’s unlikely to get stuck anywhere as he randomly changes direction at set times and in this way manages to clean your entire floor effectively. It uses an electrostatic pad to pick up the dust, which you just throw away once its done.

The Robomop is getting rave reviews- even Bruce Willis is a fan. Makes you want one even more now eh? A hot (for the women) action star (for the men) (or vice versa if you prefer) who hates housework as much as the rest of us? Score!

  • I’ve been waiting for this..

I thought it’d have happened after the Robotic Vacuum was introduced. It’s an ugly thing, but no doubt, there’ll be better models to come.

How about one that Vacumms, mops, and buffs?.. It’ll come. ;)

  • I want one that puts all my crap back on to the shelves! And does the washing up. I just need a robot house really :)

  • I’m not sure about one that puts all your “Crap” back onto the shelves, but there is a robot that actually does the washing up, and it’s called “THE DISHWASHER”.. lol. :)

  • I just got pwnd…

We don’t have a dishwasher. Its on the list for my next house!

An absolute tech junky, I graduated from the University of Manchester with a degree in Computing and now live on the outskirts of Leeds working with you guessed it, Computers. I love all things gadgety but really dislike wires. For those of you who haven’t worked it out the name of the site is a combination of my nickname (Gaj) and the pronunciation ‘Gadget’.
