Drum stick pencils- for your inner artistic musician

drumstick pencilsRock band and Guitar Hero World Tour have a lot to answer for. For a start, I finally got to play the latter at a party the other night for the first time and I was convinced I could drum. Then my friend took over and switched from easy to expert and I had to go back to the vodka jelly and find another way to pretend I can play music. Maybe I’ll just stick to within the privacy of my own head?

Enter stage left the Drum Stick Pencils. Name me one person who doesn’t flick their writing utensil about when they’re trying to think of what to put down on paper. I remember being in school, bored as anything while someone stood up and tried in vain to get me enthused about French, while the person next to me played energetic drum solos with their bics. I’ve seen this gadget around a few places now and to me they look a genius invention.

I love drawing, and I love listening to music to inspire me and get me in the right mind set. There’s nothing like a bit of heavy rock to get the creative juices flowing. And if they don’t flow, then you simply spin the pencils round and drum along with Travis or Roger Tailor and dream about banging the skins. And if you know how, you could even respin the Drum Sticks to the pencil end and write down what you just flailed and become a millionaire rock star in no time. Who cares if you’d sound more like Animal from the Muppets when you’re let loose on a real drum kit?

Naturally enough you get two in a pack and they’re available from quite a few places at the moment, so get yourself on trend and enjoy your day dreams. Doodle or drum- your choice. My only worry would be breaking the pencil lead when you hit the table edge- maybe someone needs to invent a drum kit eraser to play them on?

  • Yes! I’m a congenital ‘drummer’, and these will serve me well. Not so sure about the colleagues in my meetings though.

  • Just make sure you all have them- you can set up a band after work :P

An absolute tech junky, I graduated from the University of Manchester with a degree in Computing and now live on the outskirts of Leeds working with you guessed it, Computers. I love all things gadgety but really dislike wires. For those of you who haven’t worked it out the name of the site is a combination of my nickname (Gaj) and the pronunciation ‘Gadget’.
