The iChange: An iPhone Controlled Car

The iPhone already has the ability to tell you how to get from A to B, but now it will actually get you there. The iChange is the latest iPhone accessory… and it’s a car.rin

Instead of grabbing your chunky set of keys as you leave for work each morning, you’ll just need to remember your mobile phone and sandwich. The iChange doesn’t have a key slot or button to start-up its engine, but instead is controlled by your iPhone.

To get your car going, simply clip your iPhone into a special holder next to the steering wheel. Once it is connected a green “start” button will appear on your iPhone’s display. Simply touch the button and the iChange will rev up and be ready to take you off onto your pizza run.

It doesn’t stop there though, the iPhone can then be used for other control functionalities such as turning on the car’s headlights and mapping GPS routes.

If you’re already thinking of getting rid of your Ford Mondeo in favour of the iChange, unfortunately it’s still only in concept stage. Swiss company Rinspeed have devised it for unveiling at this week’s Geneva Motor Show.

While there are not plans to put the iChange into mass production, it’s interesting to see just how far convergent technology can progress should we want it to. As long as setting your iPhone to shuffle doesn’t give you a random assortment of horn, heater and windscreen wipers.

I love all things gadgety but really dislike wires. For those of you who haven’t worked it out the name of the site is a combination of my nickname (Gaj) and the pronunciation ‘Gadget’.
