maze money boxDid you spend too much on Valentines Day this year? Or maybe you spent too little? Either way, now’s a good time to start saving money again, whether it be to buy food or just to make up for it next year. Or perhaps Valentines Day didn’t bankrupt you, but you’re just perpetually skint. Whatever the reason- saving money is hard. Even though there’s supposedly an economic crisis, I’ll bet you haven’t really cut back all that much. Need a novel way that’ll stop you spending money but also ranks highly on the cool gadget scale?Step forward the Maze Money Box. It looks simple enough at first glance. A Perspex cube with a slit in the top and a funky design- great! In goes the money. But darn it- those shoes are just too tempting and you’ve just realised ‘Street Fighter IV’ is out soon. Off you go to get the money. Easy- all you have to do is navigate the ball baring around the maze, hit a lever and open the door.

Not so easy after all. Pretty frustrating in fact. Will definitely make you think twice about how much you really need the money. And so you’ll be making deposits without withdrawing it all a week later, and your savings will carry on growing. It’s even better than those sealed can money boxes- this one can’t be solved with a tin opener.

If you can’t get the cash out in time, then you can always hand over the money box as the present. Actually, the compartment inside is a great place for their actual present. As long as it fits through the slot then you’re away. Concert tickets, vouchers, your latest piece of artwork- as long as its something they really REALLY want it’ll be amusing. For you at least. Although, if like me you’ve thought of it as a novel way to propose to someone, then you’d better make sure you’re dating a puzzle genius, because they’ll probably start out laughing, but you may not be walking up the aisle if they can’t solve it. Or you’ll need another to save up for a replacement ring anyway.

An absolute tech junky, I graduated from the University of Manchester with a degree in Computing and now live on the outskirts of Leeds working with you guessed it, Computers. I love all things gadgety but really dislike wires. For those of you who haven’t worked it out the name of the site is a combination of my nickname (Gaj) and the pronunciation ‘Gadget’.
