MWC 2009: Sony Ericsson W995 Walkman Phone

smallSony Ericsson released the W395 just prior to MWC, and now they're unleashing another walkman phone.  And a pretty impressive one at that!

The W995 Walkman is the first to feature Sony Ericsson's Media Goâ„¢, 'which transfers, plays and organises your entertainment, in most file formats, to your mobile phone simply and effortlessly'.

The walkman player features Clear Stereo, Clear Bass, Album art, PlayNow, TrackID and SensMe.  The stereo speakers promise great sound quality and the handset features a 3.5mm audio jack for your own earphones.  Included with the handset, are Sony's HPM-77 premium headphones.

"The W995 Walkmanâ„¢ phone brings together the very best music experiences of any phone, augments this with best in class video and sharing capabilities to offer the most complete communication entertainment package to date." said Alexandre Cardon, Global Marketing Business Manager at Sony Ericsson.

Further entertainment features include a YouTube app, Walk Mate pedometer app, 3D and motion gaming, video streaming, Java and FM radio with RDS.

Keep in touch via text, email, instant messaging and video calling and get organised with the usual calendar, alarm and task features.  Surf the web through the Access NetFront web browser via turbo 3G and WiFi and get where you need to be with Google Maps and Wayfinder Navigator (3 month free trial) alongside a-GPS.

The handset also features Bluetooth 2.0 (with A2DP), USB 2.0, synchronisation and PictBridge connectivity.

Pretty impressive for a walkman phone, is the 8.1megapixel camera, with 16x digital zoom, auto focus, flash, image and video stabilizer, face detection, photo fix and video light.  The handset allows for picture blogging, video blogging and geo-tagging of photos.

Weighing 113grams, the W995 is 15mm thick and comes in 3 colours: Progressive Black, Cosmic Silver and Energetic Red.  The 2.6inch scratch-resistant TFT screen has a resolution of 240x320pixels and 262,144 colours.  The handset features an accelerometer and shake control.

The battery life will give you around 9 hours talk time, 370 hours standby time, 3.5 hours video talk time, 20 hours music listening time and 5 hours video watching time.  And you'll get an 8GB memory card thrown in to store an enormous supply of videos, music, photos and much more.
