Ray Gun Channel Changer- because secretly you’ve always wanted to be George Jetson

Ray Gun Channel ChangerBack in the days before reality TV seemed to dominate every second of every day, TV showed some fantastic programmes: proper comedy, interesting documentaries, and more sci-fi than you could shake a stick at. By the year 2000 we were meant to be living on the Moon, walking our dogs in zero gravity and shooting aliens left right and centre. Well, a quick look outside shows that while the ground is white, it’s because we’re having the heaviest snow fall in six years, and the only aliens in my house are what’s growing on my pots and pans.  I don’t even have a dog, space helmeted or not.

If you too hoped things would be different in the millennium, then join me in admiring the Ray Gun Channel Changer. Nick the two AAA batteries; ditch that old, boring remote and shoot the TV instead- you even get the classic ‘zap’ sound from cartoons in the 80s. It works with most TVs and can be used to replace one function of your TV. So you can change the channel up or down, or even set it to turn your TV on and off. You could even get loads, then you can totally throw out your old remote and have a different gun for every function! As it’s compatible with most remotes you could even use it on your CD player too. It’ll be just like living in the future. Except you won’t accidentally incinerate you sister.

And you know you want an excuse to shoot the next Big Brother contestants…

Don’t have a TV? Just think of the fancy dress opportunities! Firebox have a section for owners to pose with their ray gun, so raid a charity shop for silver leggings, make yourself some Spock ears and get the camera out. Already done just that? Then make sure to post us a link to the photo in the comments or on the forums.

An absolute tech junky, I graduated from the University of Manchester with a degree in Computing and now live on the outskirts of Leeds working with you guessed it, Computers. I love all things gadgety but really dislike wires. For those of you who haven’t worked it out the name of the site is a combination of my nickname (Gaj) and the pronunciation ‘Gadget’.
