This stylish looking gadget may just end up also being one of the most practical things in your home. The Wattson Energy Monitor will let you know at a glance just how much electricity you’re using to power all of your other household gadgetry, which in turn could let you know how you can save the environment and save money at the same time.
The Wattson will store up to 28 days of your electricity usage data on its 32Kb memory. You can then connect it to your PC through a USB connection and graph your energy savings.
There’s even a social networking side to this as you can publish and compare your stats online with other Wattson users, and trade tips on how to save energy.
To use this nifty eco-saving gadget, simply clip on its sensor clip to one of the mains cables leading to your fuse box. The Wattson will then display the data into watts or, more importantly, in monetary terms on its LED display.
The Wattson also has some party lights underneath the unit, which will change colour depending on whether you’re using less electricity than you normally do, or if you need to turn down the heating a bit more.
As you move around the house switching off gadgets, the light colours will alter until most things are off and you get a cool blue glow.
For ease of use the Wattson is wireless, so you can carry it anywhere in the house within a 30m radius.
But what about the electricity used by this gadget itself? Well fear not as the transmitter uses a rechargeable battery which only eats an average of 5 watts of power. According to the guys at iWoot, to put that into perspective, a kettle can use up to 3000 watts just making a cup of tea.
So go one, save the environment, your hard earned cash and get your living room looking cool!
