Overview:
The Sony Ericsson C510 will be in stores soon which is great news for anyone looking for a phone with a decent camera at an affordable price. This handset will feature Smile Shutter technology and is being heralded as the most affordable Cyber-shot phone to date. Let’s see what else this phone has going for it.
Review:
The Sony Ericsson Cyber-shot series has been pretty popular since its release, with over 32 million handsets sold worldwide. The latest addition to the family is the C510 Cyber-shot is expected to be noticeably cheaper than its predecessors, which is always welcome news when you’re weeks away from your next pay packet.
This handset comes with a 3.2 megapixel Cyber-shot camera, which is pretty standard amongst camera phones on the market these days. It also features 3.2 x Digital Zoom.
The C510 does stand apart from the crowd though by also featuring Smile Shutter which will detect a person's smile and then immediately take the photo. Any technology that reduces the time you have to hold a cheesy pose in public while your photographer spends ages lining up the shot, is brilliant in my opinion.
It also has auto-focus, Face Detection which will focus on up to three faces at a time, Auto-rotation to alter the landscape and portrait view by tilting the phone, and Photo Fix to adjust light balance, brightness and contrast simultaneously.
It also features Snapfish by HP which is a pre-installed application allows users to send print orders from the phone to Snapfish and have quality photo prints delivered to your home.
If you’re a social networking fiend, the C510 is YouTube enabled so you can upload your videos and images straight to the web.
The phone is 3G and video conferencing ready, which is handy for people who do business on the go. If you do need this handset for both business and pleasure, the C510 also comes with Microsoft Exchange Activesync and Google Maps.
Music-wise, the C510 has Stereo Bluetooth and Mega Bass to really get the party going in your head. It also has FM Radio with RDS.
The phone itself looks sleek and not too bulky so should sit nicely in your pocket. This is something most phones should do, but surprisingly don’t. The C510 weighs just 92 grams and the scratch-resistant TFT screen is 2.2 inches.
This handset is expected to be in stores in February.

We Say:
If this stylish handset is as affordable as Sony Ericsson claim it will be, then you’re going to get a lot of top end features for your money. There is some fantastic technology in the C510 and it’s great to see that this will be made accessibly to everyone, not just those who can pay through the nose.
