Review: JVC LT42DR9. A 42 Inch Screen at a Decent Price

Overview:
If you’ve been on the hunt to upgrade your current TV and are also out to get a post-Christmas bargain, this set may get you curious. The JVC LT42DR9 (catchy, isn’t it?) has a 42 inch widescreen and is HD ready. It’s also not overpriced like a number of other sets currently on the market. But what else has it got going for it? Let’s find out.

Review:
The JVC LT42DR9 is without doubt a very stylish looking TV. Not only that, but it’s not badly priced when you compare it to other recent JVC TVs that have been released in the second half of this year. It’s usually priced at £899.99 but there’s a bit of a sale on at Empire Direct right now, and you can upgrade your current set for just £599.99.jvc

For your money you will receive an Integrated Digital TV Receiver, so no unsightly box required to pick up digital signals and Dynapix HD Picture Engine. It also comes with a multi brand remote.

The LT42DR9 also includes Slim Oblique Cone speakers with NICAM stereo sound and 20W total audio output. It’s getting a bit technical here, but this all adds up to quality sound straight out of the box. If you do spend a bit of time adjusting the sound to fit your room, you will end up with quite a rich quality, so it’s worth the initial effort.

While sound is always important on a TV, the real quality problem child to look out for is picture quality. Otherwise you’d just buy a radio. The picture quality on the LT42DR9 is extremely good, especially for a 50hz set. The only sticky point is that when watching standard digital TV, the image can become a bit pixelated now and then, which to be honest, is a common problem amongst TVs in this price range.

This model comes with a number of different connection options including 2 SCART connections, Composite connection, and 3 HDMI connections. There is no DVI port for newer PCs to plug straight into, but you can get a DVI to HDMI cable which will sort out that problem.

If you’re making an effort to keep your house green or just keep your electricity bills down, then the LT42DR9 comes complete with Eco Mode so you can feel better about yourself the next time you watch Bill Oddie.

It also comes with a swivel base which means you can easily swing the screen around to suit wherever you’re sitting in the room. A nice touch!

The Gaj-It Verdict:
Design: 9/10
Usability: 9/10
Features: 8/10
Value: 10/10

We Say:
The JVC LT42DR9 is a great widescreen TV and comes in at a fantastic price. You get a lot for your money with this model and can upgrade your viewing pleasure and your home décor with this quality set that won’t break the budget.
