Review: The Samsung NC10 White Netbook, with 7.5 hour battery life!

Overview

With the likes of Facebook and MSN taking over the internet, it was only a matter of time until laptop developers started making machines made to do just that, internet surfing. Add that with the huge array of mobile internet connections available for people on the go and you get the latest style Netbooks.

These machines offer the user the facilities to view their favorite pages and chat to their friends from a laptop so tiny and light you would not even know it was there.

So how does the Samsung latest entry shape up?

Review

Style

Being available in a variety of colors, this Netbook can cater for every taste and with it weighing in at 1.33 kg (which is a tad heavier for its class) this Netbook can still be carried around without you breaking into a sweat.

The little extra weight might have something to do with the 10.2″ screen that whilst giving you nowhere near as large a viewing display as an everyday laptop, makes a nice addition to the Netbook class as it is around 2″ bigger than the ‘norm’.

Under the bonnet

As with almost all Netbooks this comes with the Intel Atom Processor that is so tiny it makes Netbooks possible. The one in here runs at 1.6GHz and can be found on most other models of Netbooks so expect this to be the ‘norm’.

Now this Netbook offers a whole 1GB of RAM which is a nice addition to the class with most others only coming with half of that. It just goes to show how fast technology is progressing but don't be expecting to see a Dual Core or 3 GB of RAM in these anytime soon.

Otherwise this comes with an average 160GB Hard Drive which should be absolutely fine if you're using this Netbook for what it is intended to do.

And to help with just that, this comes with a 1.3MP webcam, Bluetooth so you can transfer all those files your friends send you on MSN to your phone without having to have a degree in computers, as well as built in speakers for well… sounds.

The amazing claim from this Netbook is that it supports up to 7.5 hours of battery time.  Now if this is true, it will mean that you could quite literally be able to use this Netbook all day without having to worry about the battery running out on you until you got home.  But, if this is the case or not will remain a mystery until either we get our hands on one, or one of you nice people leave us a comment and tell us if this is true or not.

The Gaj-It Verdict

Design 10/10
Usability: 9/10
Features: 10/10
Value: 9/10

An absolute tech junky, I graduated from the University of Manchester with a degree in Computing and now live on the outskirts of Leeds working with you guessed it, Computers. I love all things gadgety but really dislike wires. For those of you who haven’t worked it out the name of the site is a combination of my nickname (Gaj) and the pronunciation ‘Gadget’.
