Thrifty shoppers have had the upper hand in this years’ run-up to Christmas with low-end prepaid handsets proving to be quite a bit more popular than hi-tech smartphones.
UK retailers have said that phones priced under £30 are taking a bigger share of sales than they have in the past.
Phones on the cheap side include the Nokia 2610 and the Samsung E250.
Retailers have also found that the Samsung J700 is also going to be under quite a few Christmas trees this year as it is impressively subsidised and therefore, cheap as chips!
Industry experts have speculated that operators will inject more money into cheap prepaid deals in the last few weeks in the run-up to Christmas.
It won’t be the first time this has happened, with sales in the last week before Christmas 2008 exceeding the one million mark after huge operator subsidies.
So if you haven’t braved the crowds for your Christmas shopping yet, it may be a good idea to wait for a bit for an even better mobile deal.
