Rhythm Sticks: Air drumming gets noisy

Here’s a gadget for the musically minded out there. Playing air drums is something that people tend to do when a rocking song comes on the radio. Unless you’re in your car in which case you may look like you’re suffering a seizure in mid-traffic. For those in a more open plan area, these Rhythm sticks will turn your fantasy play into reality.

Each drumstick has a speaker in its base which will make a drum sound whenever you and when you ‘hit’ the air. Now you can take out your fury on the poltergeist in the house and have the 1970s Batman sound effects to go with it!

Another brilliant use according to the guys at iWoot is to use them for a drum roll and cymbal crash any time someone cracks a bad joke. I think every pub in Britain should get a pair of these.

Each stick has a set of switches, giving you the choice between a classic drum beat, an electronic drum beat or the all important a cymbal crash. The tip of the sticks even light up with each beat, which may come in handy to save your TV screen from an over-enthusiastic AC/DC rendition.

Rhythm Sticks are available a pretty decent price of £9.95 and will be the perfect stocking stuffer for the kid in your house who may show musical talent, but has to put up with living in a shoebox apartment that won’t fit a drum kit. Or who has a dad who can’t stand the rock band practice at home.

  • Looks fantastic fun. Will we get an air guitar next? Gloves & a plectrum to simulate a real one. Getting dangerously close to those joke presents that are always in the shops at Christmas :)

  • Great air guitar idea! You could get a whole office band going quite easily with all of these real air instruments.

  • Interesting stuff, it is always lovely to see a few drummer blogs on the internet. There aren’t all that many sites round about drummers that I have located in any case. I am going to subscribe to your rss feed then find out what you come out with in future!

An absolute tech junky, I graduated from the University of Manchester with a degree in Computing and now live on the outskirts of Leeds working with you guessed it, Computers. I love all things gadgety but really dislike wires. For those of you who haven’t worked it out the name of the site is a combination of my nickname (Gaj) and the pronunciation ‘Gadget’.
