As more and more mobile phones hit the store fronts, there is many a marketing department finding themselves hard pressed to do something a bit unique to show that their particular handset has a certain “je ne sais quoi” about it. Motorola is the latest company to have stepped out of the shadows with a phone that is bound to excite the photo aficionado in all of us, and a challenge that has resulted in some pretty astounding photography.
The Motorola ZN5 is the first handset to feature Kodak Imaging Technology and to show that this means more than a good set of megapixels, the guys at Motorola decided to challenge eight photographers from around the world, to capture the essence of their city over the same 24 hours.
The idea was that they would to each show the world through a different perspective. Photographers from New York, Sydney, Sao Paolo, Russia, Mexico, London, Bombay and Bejing rose to the challenge, and have produced some really interesting images.
Why have Motorola placed such an emphasis on the camera of the ZN5? Well this handset is more about image capture than any other functionality. It has a high-resolution landscape screen and one of the fastest click-to-click times out there.
To go from using the ZN5 to call-in sick to work to taking a photo of your holiday destination, simply slide open the Kodak lens cover to transform the phone into an ultra-fast 5 megapixel camera with auto-focus, a Xenon flash and up to 4GB of optional external memory. While 5 megapixels is certainly a step up from most phones out in our pockets and handbags, it does fall short of the new 8 megapixel camera phones on the market now such as Samsung’s i8510 and the LG Renior.
One stand-out camera mode on the ZN5 is the panorama mode, which automatically stitches together continuous shots taken on a horizon line into a single, extended image. This will come in handy the next time your at a lookout or a banquet.
If you’re a bit of a night owl, there are also optimized settings for low-light environments.

The 5 megapixel camera really means that you can use this while you’re off on holiday and don’t need to carry around an extra camera to take pretty decent photos. Still, the other phones mentioned in the article would do a better job in the end.
