Apple is Top Selling Smartphone Vendor in UK

BlackBerry does not seem to catch a break. Recently, the beleaguered Canadian telecom company lost its top spot in UK smartphone market to Apple. Gartner in latest report stated that Apple has finally overtaken RIM to become the top smartphone seller in the country.

The report must have come as a cruel blow to RIM, which earlier this month claimed to be the top vendor. It had said, "The latest results from data firm GfK show that BlackBerry was the No 1 selling smartphone in the British market for the second year running, grabbing 26.3% of December sales and averaging 27.7% through 2011.” During the fourth quarter of last year, RIM was not only been beaten by Apple but also by Samsung.

Market consensus seems to be on Gartner's side as most of the research firms concede that RIM is facing constant decline in its market share. Kantar WorldTech also said that Apple had 30.9 percent market share during the last three weeks of 2011, up from 21.4 percent a year earlier. However, UK is not the only market where RIM is losing dominance. It is facing same fate in the US and other major markets as well.
