Roku is preparing for UK launch and it has now got BBC iPlayer to boost its services. The company had announced about its UK debut in January this year and it would be introducing two of its models, Roku LT and Roku 2 XS, in UK. Clive Hudson, vice president and general manager of Europe at Roku, said, "Roku recognises the importance of region-specific programmes so today we are excited to announce the addition of BBC iPlayer to our platform. This is among the first of many significant content partnerships for Roku in Europe and we look forward to making additional announcements in the coming weeks.”
Both Roku LT and Roku 2 XS are aimed at different market segments. Roku LT will be available at £49.99 price point and supports 720p video resolution. It also offers Wi-Fi support. Roku 2 XS, on the other hand, is able to support 1080p video. It comes with a motion-controlled Bluetooth game remote for gaming purpose. Roku 2 XS also has microSD card slot, Ethernet port and Wi-Fi connectivity. However, it is slightly more expensive than LT at £99.99. Though, Roku is throwing in a free copy of Angry Birds along with this set top box.
BBC iPlayer is one of the most prominent players in streaming video market in UK. With Roku, viewers will now be able to play BBC content on their TV.
