Nokia, once a top handset manufacturing company, is now struggling to maintain its position in the market. The Finnish company is
looking to regain its lost glory with Microsoft's Windows Phone 7 handsets and it seems its strategy may eventually pay off. Reportedly, Nokia moved about 1.3 million Windows Phone powered Lumia 710 and Lumia 800 phones during 2011.
According to Bloomberg, the Finnish handset manufacturer may have finally found the recipe for success in its Lumia phones. Bloomberg consulted 22 industry analysts for generating these figures. Fund managing company Storebrand Asset Management said, "If Nokia is able to have a strong launch and surpass at least 1 million and keep that type of momentum, this would help put them in a credible position that is crucial to winning back investors."
Despite the ostensible good performance, Nokia is not ready to provide any forecast about Nokia Lumia sales numbers. If anything, Nokia is trying to keep the hype low and not everyone is impressed with Nokia's performance. equity research firm, Jefferies International said, "There weren't a lot of the hero handsets out there — HTC were struggling, RIM didn't have a show-me device, Sony Ericsson and Motorola weren't really stepping into the mix, so there was probably enough space for Nokia to be able to point to fourth-quarter numbers they were happy with."
Nokia has been reporting constant decline in the sales numbers for Symbian smartphones since last two quarters. It's market share is also slipping.
