2011 proved to be a good year for Android and iOS and both the platforms had a great closing week. According to a report released by mobile analytics firm Flurry, the final week of the year saw 1.2 billion downloads of iOS and Android apps, up 60 percent from weekly average for the first two weeks of December. Christmas day alone saw 242 million downloads of various Android and iOS apps. Both the platforms also saw about e0 million device activations over the week.
The report also showed that the US accounts for the largest number of app downloads. During the last week of the year, US subscribers downloaded 509 million applications. China is next in the line with 99 million apps downloads during the said week. UK comes third with 81 million downloads. Canada and Germany occupied fourth and fifth spots.
The report estimates that 2012 will prove to be equally good or even better year for iOS and Android apps. It says, "While iOS and Android growth continues to amaze, the market is still by all measures relatively nascent." Flurry, the firm behind the report studied 14,000 apps to collect the data.
