Google's very own Eric Schmidt divulged a few interesting tidbits during his interview with an Italian newspaper. He alluded to the fact that the internet search engine giant is in the process of building its own branded tablet and the new contraption is likely to make its debut in next six months. The move is the extension of the strategy adopted by the company in relation to smartphones. In addition to distributing its Android platform to other handset makers, the company also produces its own smartphone, Nexus.
The move may have been prompted by the fact that Android tablets so far have failed to make any impact on the market dominated by Apple's iPad. It will help company in setting a benchmark for Android tablets. It is expected that the new tablet will be closely aligned with Android version 4.0.
Schmidt did not provide any other detail except stating that the tablet should be out within next six months. After a number of false alarms, this is one tablet which has the potential to be a real iPad killer. Google tablet will be in direct competition with iPad 3. Apple is expected to launch its next generation iPad in March next year.
