Ever since its launch, Kindle has remained among the top selling products for Amazon. This year is no different, as the company has just announced that it is now selling over a million Kindle ever week during the holiday season. Amazon also said that the introduction of Kindle Fire has further added to the popularity of Kindle series. Kindle Fire has topped the bestselling list for consecutive 11 weeks.
Dave Limp, Vice President, Amazon Kindle said, "Our family of Kindle e-ink readers are close behind Kindle Fire on the Amazon.com bestseller list. Customers continue to report preferring their Kindle e-reader for long-form reading, and in fact we've seen many customers buy two Kindles - both a Kindle Fire and a Kindle or Kindle Touch - this holiday season."
Amazon also noted that the demand for Kindle Fire is also increasing on week over week basis. Kindle Fire was widely touted as iPad Killer at its launch. Though, the tablet has not made any significant dent in iPad's demand, but the product itself has proved to be a winner. The demand stats show that it is gaining foothold in the market, which is quite opposite to what happened to HP and RIM tablets. HP had to hold a fire sale for disposing off its inventory, while RIM has also admitted that it is unable to sell its product.
Just like iPad, Kindle Fire also seems to have started a new market segment, i.e. of low price tablets.
