Facebook is the Most Popular Android App

As if we already didn't had enough proof of Facebook's popularity, here's one more survey which proves the obvious point. According to a study conducted by Market research firm Nielsen, Facebook is the most popular Android app and its popularity cuts across all the age groups. In July this year, Facebook was adjudged to be the third most popular Android app behind Google Maps and Gmail. Since then, Facebook has managed to make some improvements in its stats.

In the age bracket of 18 to 24 years, Google Search is the most popular app behind Facebook, while Gmail took the second spot after Facebook in the age categories of 25 to 34 years and 35 to 44 years old users. The top three spots after Facebook are occupied by Gmail, Google Maps and Google Search in different order among the different age brackets. YouTube clinched the fifth position across all the age categories, thus proving its universal appeal.

Angry Bird, the ubiquitous game, is also featured in the top list. Interestingly, the app is most popular among 35 to 44 years old and is used by about 35 percent users in this age category. The study was conducted by using Nielsen's proprietary on-device monitoring software. The software was installed by a couple of thousands volunteers and the collected data was used for studying the trends.

An absolute tech junky, I graduated from the University of Manchester with a degree in Computing and now live on the outskirts of Leeds working with you guessed it, Computers. I love all things gadgety but really dislike wires. For those of you who haven’t worked it out the name of the site is a combination of my nickname (Gaj) and the pronunciation ‘Gadget’.
