There is a fine line between being fashionably late and really really late and seems like Windows 8 has crossed that line. According to a report released by market research firm Forrester, Windows 8 may well be the case of offering too little, too late.

Though, on the positive note, some reports have claimed that Windows 8 tablets demos have evoked positive response from the public. The reports have also claimed that the consumers are particularly enthused by its Metro UI. However, Forrester claims that the public's interest in Windows 8 tablets may wane, as Microsoft is taking too long to release the platform.

The report goes on to state that the tablet market is getting saturated and it would be difficult for Windows 8 tablets to carve out a niche for themselves. the report further says, "While Windows' product strategists can learn from these products, other players have come a long way in executing and refining their products -- Apple, Samsung, and others have already launched second-generation products and will likely be into their third generation by the time Windows 8 launches."

Windows 8 tablets' chances have been further muddied by the fact that Barnes & Noble's Nook Tablet and Amazon's Kindle Fire seemed to be all set for capturing lower end of the market. The report suggests that the Windows 8 tablet's chances are getting slimmer, "In Q1 2011, Windows was by far the top choice of consumers -- while no touch-first Windows tablets existed, 26% of U.S. consumers yearned for one. By Q2 2011, that picture had changed dramatically."
