Samsung may be getting beaten down by Apple in courthouse, but the company is doing fine in the market. According to the Wall Street Journal, Samsung is believed to have shipped more than 20 million smartphones during the third quarter of the year. In contrast, Apple reported to ship 17.1 million phones during the same time period. These figures show that Samsung finally managed to pip Apple from its top spot. Though, the figures for Samsung are merely an estimate, as the company has not revealed the actual numbers for the third quarter.
Third quarter also seemed to be a bit better for Nokia, which is witnessing consistent slide in its shipment numbers. The company shipped 16.8 million Smartphones during the third quarter, which is still 38 percent lower than 27.1 million smartphones shipped during the corresponding quarter of the last year. However, the company did manage to control the rate of decline. With these figures, Nokia picked the third spot for the quarter.
Samsung is likely to perform even better in the fourth quarter, as the company has just released its Galaxy Nexus smartphone, in collaboration with Google. Galaxy Nexus is the flagship phone for Android 4.0 or Ice Cream Sandwich, the latest iteration of Google's Android mobile operating system. Meanwhile, Apple had a rough third quarter. Though, the company performed well, but it failed to meet overhyped and inflated Wall Street hopes.
