There is no love lost between Apple and Google, but the severity of the situation is just emerging now. As the details are leaking out from Walter Isaacson's biography on Steve Jobs, we are getting a glimpse of what was going on in Apple founder's mind during his last days. Apparently, he had no kind view of Android, the only other mobile OS to put up a good fight against Apple's iOS.
In Steve Jobs' own words:
"I will spend my last dying breath if I need to, and I will spend every penny of Apple's $40 billion in the bank, to right this wrong. I'm going to destroy Android, because it's a stolen product. I'm willing to go thermonuclear war on this."
Steve Jobs had also mentioned his sense of 'betrayal' about Eric Schmidt, who used to be on the Apple board. Eric Schmidt and Steve Jobs also tried to mend the fences, but Jobs was not the one to let go of things so easily. While trying to settle Android issue, the book claims that Jobs' response was, "I don’t want your money. If you offer me $5 billion, I won’t want it. I’ve got plenty of money. I want you to stop using our ideas in Android, that’s all I want.”
Apple is currently involved in a couple of legal cases instituted against Android partners such as HTC and Samsung. So far, Apple has proved that it has edge in the war, as it has already succeeded in getting Samsung products' sales banned. It is yet to be seen whether his successor Tim Cook is equally acrimonious towards Android. If Tim Cook shares the same legacy, then probably Android partner companies should get ready for some more salvo from Apple.
