Google to Say Sayonara to Buzz: Focus on Google+

After a smashing debut, Google+ is kind of limping along. But still, the social networking endeavor has created more 'buzz' than any other Google social networking initiative. Despite, the slowdown in traffic, Google+ is still a priority task for the internet search giant. And for ensuring its undivided attention to the cause, Google has decided to shut down its earlier venture Buzz. Like a couple of other Google networking ventures, Buzz initially met with mild success but then gradually fizzled out.

In recent past, Google has closed the shutter on many of its services including universally loved Google Labs. The other services getting the boot are Jaiku and Code Search. Jaiku is yet another social networking venture which the company had acquired in 2007, while Code Search was mainly intended to help programmers in searching for open source code. However, both these services would be kept on life support machine for longer time than Buzz. Buzz would be phased out in a couple of weeks, while Jaiku and Code Search will remain functional till January 15, 2012.

On the company's blog, Google Vice President Bradley Horowitz paid warm tribute to Buzz, "We learned a lot from products like Buzz, and are putting that learning to work every day in our vision for products like Google+. Our users expect great things from us; today's announcements let us focus even more on giving them something truly awesome." Not sure how many people are actually going to miss Buzz, but still we would like Buzz to Rest in Peace. It was good while it lasted, mate.

An absolute tech junky, I graduated from the University of Manchester with a degree in Computing and now live on the outskirts of Leeds working with you guessed it, Computers. I love all things gadgety but really dislike wires. For those of you who haven’t worked it out the name of the site is a combination of my nickname (Gaj) and the pronunciation ‘Gadget’.
