Google Bashes Microsoft for Samsung Royalty Deal: Gets Prompt Rejoinder

People living in glass houses are advised against throwing stones at other, but evidently, the dictum does not apply to people in tech sector. While Samsung is embroiled in a bitter legal battle with Apple, but it has managed to amicably solve its Android issues with Microsoft. Both the companies agreed on cross licensing agreement, under which Samsung would pay royalties to Microsoft for each Android device sale. The companies also agreed to collaborate on developing Windows Phone. While the entire sector is getting sabotaged with multiple IP lawsuits, at least there are some companies which can take a constructive way out.

The move, however, hasn't gone down well with Google. Google is the parent company of Android and it has openly blasted Microsoft for its supposedly nefarious attempts. In an unusual outburst, Google claimed that Microsoft is 'extorting profits from others.' In a statement to TechCrunch, the company said, "This is the same tactic we've seen time and again from Microsoft. Failing to succeed in the smartphone market, they are resorting to legal measures to extort profit from others' achievements and hinder the pace of innovation. We remain focused on building new technology and supporting Android partners."

Microsoft and Samsung did not take long to retort back. While Microsoft said, "Look at today's announcement. If industry leaders such as Samsung and HTC can enter into these agreements, doesn't this provide a clear path forward?" Samsung was a bit more blunt. Reportedly one Samsung executive said that Samsung shook hands with Microsoft as "knows it can't rely on Google." Despite the loud proclamations of solidarity with Android post-Motorola acquisitions, the cracks are now visible in Android army.

I love all things gadgety but really dislike wires. For those of you who haven’t worked it out the name of the site is a combination of my nickname (Gaj) and the pronunciation ‘Gadget’.
