Cloud computing is the buzz word and gaming industry is all set to embrace it. OnLive, an on-demand cloud gaming service, has finally made its venture in the UK official. The launch of the cloud gaming service was announced at the Eurogamer Expo 2011 in London. OnLive currently has about 100 titles available in its portfolio and is doing its publicity to lure gamers to try this model.
OnLive games will be streamed over broadband internet connection and you can play the games on your desktop or on your HDTV. The company is also planning to bring gaming to Android tablets and iPad. In OnLive's own words, "No console, no high-end computer, no discs, no huge downloads. Plus unprecedented community features like massive spectating, Facebook integration, Brag Clip videos and spectating voice chat, both throughout the UK and across the Atlantic.” OnLive is certainly leaving no stone unturned for persuading people to try this new service.
OnLive is collaborating with BT for this service, which is currently offering e-months subscription to PlayPack1 for free. The subscription is for unlimited usage. As far as the streaming gaming service is concerned, you will need to install a small set top box and then you are all set to play games on any compatible device.
OnLive is also collaborating with Game Group, which will be responsible for promoting OnLive's services to its clients. Game Group has a subscriber base of millions of users across Europe and UK. It will also sell OnLive Game System, which is a device you will need if you want to stream the games to your TV instead of your desktop.
OnLive is offering free sign up, which lets you play for half an hour. So, if you are not ready to loosen your purse strings for trying this service, then the free sign up is the way to go.
