If you thought smartphone segment was too crowded then think again. Apparently, Baidu and Dell do not share your views for these two
companies are joining hands for bringing you a whole new line of smartphones. And since, tablets are a hot property nowadays, the duo will release a couple of tablets as well. Initially, the range will be available in Baidu’s base country China only.
This announcement should not be very surprising since only a few days back Baidu had introduced its own mobile operating system. Looks like Baidu is very serious about becoming China’s Google. The company already has an IE based browser in its portfolio. Its new software platform is, however, heavily inspired by Android. Baidu also has developed it’s own cache of apps which cater to various needs ranging from e-reading to finding directions via it’s maps. We are not quite sure about the global appeal of this platform, but considering Baidu has a very successful search business in China, we are going to assume that its Operating system would also be able to make its mark in the domestic market.
As for its new alliance with Dell, it looks like that the things are going full steam. Though, both the companies declined to give any specific release date for their smart phones and tablets, but it is likely that a couple of these products will be in the market by the month of November. Both the companies are equally mum about the product specs as well. Though, it is likely that we may get to see Streak 5 getting resurrected.
China has a robust mobile user base with approximate 900 million mobile phone users. Abide has leadership position in Internet search space while Dell recently announced 22 percent increase in it’s quarterly sales.
