Nokia to Add NFC Feature to All its Future Symbian Phones

Nokia may have shaken hands with Microsoft for promoting Windows Phone 7, but it does not mean that it is going to abandon its home-brewed Symbian platform. Nokia announced that all its future Symbian phones would come with NFC feature. Near Field Communication feature is fast gaining ground and is being used in many Android phones already. A couple of Nokia's existing phones such as Nokia 700 already come with NFC capability. NFC technology is widely being touted as the next evolutionary development in mobile payment segment.

Near Field Communication technology lets a mobile handset act as a payment spot. IIari Nurmi, a Nokia Vice President has been quotes as saying, "From now on, all of our products will have an NFC chip inside. All other NFC-equipped devices can also link to our products.” With NFC, you can replace your wallet with your mobile phone. If the restaurants and the shops you frequent are equipped with NFC-compatible payment terminal, then you can make payment merely by waving your NFC mobile phone and do not need to pull your credit card or cash out of your pocket.

Nokia is looking to regain some of its lost ground by offering latest innovations. Though, in the case of NFC, Google is already way ahead. The internet search giant is reported to have formed alliance with Citigroup and Mastercard for promoting this mobile payment service. And as Apple is known for bucking the trend, iPhone still does not have NFC feature and it is highly unlikely that even iPhone 5 will have this capability. Though, reportedly, Apple is working on its own proprietary mobile payment system.
