Following the massive drop in its price, HP TouchPad saw its demand soaring. And now it looks like HP might be having double thoughts about pulling the plug on its tablet range. Yesterday, the company announced a number of updates for the tablet and it also assured that WebOS would not be left orphaned. However, do not get your hopes too high.
HP may or may not resurrect its tablet line, but it certainly is thinking about pushing one last batch of its TouchPad in the market. According to the reports, inspired by the eventual success of the tablet, HP is now gearing up sending a few more tablets in the market. However, we hope that HP is not going to optimistic. After all, the massive spike in TouchPad demand came only after deep discount. So, we can safely say that its sales number would be greatly diminished if it tries to sell the tablet at original pricing.
At its current price of about $99, the company is said to be incurring a loss of $207 per unit. It is to a small sum by any means. However, HP has yet to disclose the price it would be charging for the new batch of tablets. If the new batch is meant for fulfilling backorders, then it is only logical that HP would end up charging $99 for the new tablets as well. Otherwise, the company might be trying to find that pricing sweet spot, where it can sell enough TouchPads to keep the line alive. Whatever the case may be, it is sure that even the new batch will be available at considerable discount to the original price. So, are you planning to buy one?
