UK Gets the Taste of New Android Market

A couple of months back, Google had announced the new version of its Market and the spanking new Android Market was rolled out in the US in July. However, now Android Market goodness is available in the UK as well, albeit with some changes. Also, Samsung Galaxy S is the only Android device in the UK which has been graced by this new format market.

The new Android Market has new layout for displaying featured apps. The new display lets you swipe side to side and presents you with top free apps, top paid apps and top apps in different categories. The new version also loads faster and smoother than before. Even, the app info presentation has been tweaked and now it looks more streamlined and user friendly.

However, one of the most impressive features of the new market is that it lets you run multiple accounts simultaneously. So if you have multiple accounts and have apps scattered through them then now you will be able to see which app is associated with which id. So no more logging into different accounts to see the apps associated with them.  The new market also makes it easier to share the apps as all the sharing options are neatly displayed on the top of respective app page.

Due to intellectual property rights issue, some of the features of the new market would not be available in the UK version. For example, Book section of the market is absent in the UK version. It also lacks video section. Barring these two shortcomings, the new market is significantly better than the previous version.

An absolute tech junky, I graduated from the University of Manchester with a degree in Computing and now live on the outskirts of Leeds working with you guessed it, Computers. I love all things gadgety but really dislike wires. For those of you who haven’t worked it out the name of the site is a combination of my nickname (Gaj) and the pronunciation ‘Gadget’.
