Nintendo launched its handheld 3D gaming system with much
fanfare and though the console proved to be a reasonable success during its
initial days, but later it just went downhill real fast. Various reasons have
been cited for the apparent failure of the console. Though, Nintendo deserves a
pat on its back for realizing its shortcomings and tried to make up for them.
The company first resorted to major price cut, which helped in increasing the sales,
but still left a lot to be desired.
Now, Nintendo is taking some drastic steps to revive its
ailing console. According to the rumors, 3DS is all set to receive a major
makeover. A French website 01net has reported that the gaming company would be
adding an analog joystick to 3DS. The new add-on is likely to be priced at $10.
In the long term, the company is also planning to launch a redesigned version
in 2012.
Since the console suffered high return rate on account of
consumers complaining about nausea and headache caused due to 3D, the company is
now likely to downplay 3D aspect of the gaming console. We are not sure how
this is going to pan out, since 3D functionality is the USP of the console.
