Skype WiFi is finally here, in the Apple App Store and is
probably one of the better ways of slashing your 3G consumption. Once you load
this app on your Apple device, you will be all set to scour for public Wi-Fi
networks. The app has been developed in collaboration with big Wi-Fi providers
such as BT Openzone, Boingo and FON.

The app will let you use Skype credits for using these
providers' Wi-Fi hotspots. The fee would vary from provider to provider, but is
likely to range between 3p to 11p per minute. However, as introductory offer,
you would be able to access Wi-Fi hotspots for free during this weekend.

Though the app is available for all the iOS devices, but it
is not fully optimized for iPad use. but keep in mind all the money you are
going to save with this app, and then the mini version would not look so bad on
your Apple tablet.

The app will provide you with a list of available hotspots
and the associated costs. You can then login using any of those networks without
going through the hassle of entering your sensitive credit card details. If you
are forgetful type, even then this app has got you covered. It will prompt you
every 30 minutes and if you do not authorize another session then it will
automatically log you off. You can get the full list of collaborating partners here.

An absolute tech junky, I graduated from the University of Manchester with a degree in Computing and now live on the outskirts of Leeds working with you guessed it, Computers. I love all things gadgety but really dislike wires. For those of you who haven’t worked it out the name of the site is a combination of my nickname (Gaj) and the pronunciation ‘Gadget’.
