Review: Acer 6920G – A High Spec Laptop?

[product#115]

Overview

It seems that Acer have offered us yet another ‘high’ performance laptop, but does Acer 6920G cut the mustered or leave us with a sour taste in our mouths?

Review

Style

Coming with standard glossy black that all laptop manufactures seem to prefer nowadays this laptop will surprise you the most when you open the lid.

Known as the CineDash Media Console this is a rather surprising remake of the good old fashioned controls we are all use to seeing on the top of our keyboards, the only downside is that it has taken up a good quarter of the space where the keyboard normally would be found but it makes a nice change to the ‘norm’ as it would probably make people look twice at the laptop if they saw it while you were using it on the train.

In another bizarre design twist it seems that Acer decided to go for a 16″ monitor when designing this model, now I didn't even know they made a 16″ laptop monitor which comes with HD support and a widescreen setting however this monitor will look the business in any room plus with the added benefit of people looking even more thinking the monitor looks a little bit different from a 17″.

Under the bonnet

This laptop matches its bizarre design build as well when it comes to its system specs, so let's begin with the norm.

This comes with a Intel Core 2 Duo T5750 which runs at a fairly standard 2GHz, OK not that bizarre I hear you say but when you see that this comes with 3GB of DDR2 RAM it makes you start wondering who made the decision to place 3GB in the laptop instead of 4GB or 2GB for that matter, its rather strange when manufactures use odd numbers instead of the normal even when its comes to RAM.

Storage wise this comes with a 250GB Hard Drive, which is a rather standard affair and should leave you plenty of space to store a fair few videos and MP3 files as well as the usual programs.

Graphics card wise this comes with a very nice ATi Mobility Radeon HD3650 that should hold up to the demands of most games on the market and with the 512MB of memory available to the card it should run these games smoothly.

The sound card is classed as a Dolby Home Theatre HD audio which I assume means that it is an integrated affair that gives support for high definition audio so the next gen of movies should sound the business on this laptop.

An added benefit of this laptop is that it comes with Bluetooth as well as HDMI capabilities as well, so transferring items to your mobile is a breeze and with support for the latest TV technology images it will appear just as crisp and clear as you would want them to be.

The Gaj-It Verdict

Design 9/10
Usability: 8/10
Features: 8/10
Value: 8/10

We Say

Although this laptop comes with a strange set of options it should do well in every area on the laptop market and with £100 off at the moment, it’s a steal.
