CEO of LG, Young Soo Kwon, has let it slip that the next iPad 3 will come with one of LG's Retina displays, after he declared that their new Retina Displays would be used in Apple’s iPad.
The CEO of LG said that its company's Retina Display "has been used in iPhones and iPads.” As you may well have worked out there has never been a Retina Display for the iPad - so is this the first official hint that the new iPad 3 will come with a eye-scorching Retina Display?
He isn't the first person to suggest that the Cupertino company would hike the resolution of the iPad as it's something we all prayed for with the iPad 2, but for some reason it didn't happen - most likely the cost implications.
Numerous sources have all but confirmed the increase screen resolution recently – we've heard rumours from the DigiTimes, Korea Times and John Gruber - now add Kwon's admission and everything is pointing to a Retina Display for the iPad 3.
A Retina Display on the iPad 3 would mean a resolution of 2048-by-1536 - four times that the current iPad and would mean that books, websites, videos and pictures would look stunning.
We’re starting to get an idea of what the next iPad might feature, but what else has Apple got up its sleeve? Another possible suggestion could be the first quad-core processor in third generation tablet.
The iPad 2 was merely an upgrade of the first generation iPad, but if the rumours of a Retina display are true then the iPad 3 could be a game-changer and keep Apple way ahead of the tablet curve.
Although, we don't think that you'll be seeing a Retina Display on an iPad 3 until the second quarter of 2012 - most likely April. Apple has only just perfected the supply chain and production, and for the first time is now able to offer iPads in shops instead of customers having to wait weeks for the prized tablet.
