Q2: How Have Smartphone Manufacturers Performed?

Two giants of the Android running smartphone market Samsung and HTC are due to unveil their Q2 profits in the coming weeks and analysts are predicting big figures. CCS Insight analyst Geoff Blaber blabbed: “We expect second quarter earnings to reveal a widening gulf between the winners and losers."

Apple and Nokia are also set to announce their profits, the later on 21st of the month and the former two days earlier on the 19th. So how have the big players in the smartphone market been performing in this quarter?

Apple

It is estimated that Apple has sold 16.9 million iPhones a slight drop from previous quarter as the iPhone 4 hype dies down.

HTC

HTC has grown from 5.3 million handset sales (last year) to approximately 11.4 million this quarter. At this rate they could be ahead of Apple by next year.

Samsung

Samsung set a target of 60 million sales for this year and with a second quarter figure of 19 million, they are on target to reach their goal.

LG

LG have some catching up to do. In contrast to rivals Samsung, last week LG cut their sales targets and are expected to report a fifth-consecutive quarterly loss from handset sales.

Sony Ericsson

Sony Ericsson won't be rolling in it this quarter. S.E handsets were delayed due to the terrible earthquake and tsunami in Japan.
