Spotify Finally Coming To America

Good news America the amazing music streaming software Spotify is coming to the USA. After months of legal wrangling the four major records labels have put pen to paper which means the launch of Spotify weeks away.

Now that we've got you all excited. Here’s the bad news; there's no firm date. But the music deals have been signed and it's 100% going to happen.

Just to prove that it is coming, Spotify are already accepting beta testers when it does go live. So if you’re in America head over to Spotify.com and sign up.

It’s unknown how much Spotify will charge for US customers, and whether free subscription levels will be available across the Atlantic.

At the moment Spotify uses the free model to fish the customers in and then when you reach your monthly limit , which is 10 hours, most users upgrade to the full version.

It will be interesting to see how Spotify fares in the US, where it will face stiff competition from the likes of Grooveshark, Microsoft’s Zune and Rhapsody – who all have an established reputations and user bases, and are unlikely to take kindly to a newcomer.

However, if previous rumours that Spotify would be forming a deal with Facebook to see the former’s service integrated into the latter’s, then Spotify would have little to worry about.

Spotify has long proudly displayed Mark Zuckerberg’s opinion that “Spotify is so good” on its website, so there’s the very real possibility of a collaboration.

Certainly, Facebook is been no stranger to sensible partnerships – video calling powered by Skype, marking just one example.

Aside from its position in the streaming music market, it will be interesting to see how Spotify (and its ilk) fare against the ever-growing wave of cloud music services.

I love all things gadgety but really dislike wires. For those of you who haven’t worked it out the name of the site is a combination of my nickname (Gaj) and the pronunciation ‘Gadget’.
