iPad Hits 100,000 Apps Milestone: Windows Phone Marketplace Reaches 25,000 Apps Mark

Both iPad and Windows Phone have got something good to celebrate. However, it is ironic that iPad would be celebrating crossing 100,000 dedicated apps mark, whereas poor Windows Phone is patting its back for crossing 25,000 apps milestone. What is worse that Windows Phone's achievement is still kind of dubious. So far, only one app tracker has certified the achievement, whereas most of the other trackers are still logging the number of WP7 apps at below 25K mark. But let's give WP7 benefit of doubt and congratulate it for its accomplishment.

Assuming that WP7 is already 25K apps rich, the rate of growth shown by the platform is indeed impressive. The OS took five months to accumulate its first 11.5 K apps, however next 13,500 apps took only three months. This clearly shows that developers are willing to give WP7 a chance. If things keep going at this pace, then Microsoft will have some positive enforcement while celebrating the first anniversary of its mobile platform. Hopefully, arrival Mango will accelerate the rate of app development.

iPad, on the other hand, does not seem too enthusiastic about crossing 100,000 app mark. We can understand becoming blasé about such trivial achievements, when you get used to becoming the benchmark. Considering that iPad is only a little older than a year, it is a big achievement but Apple certainly has bigger things to think about and therefore chose not to make any hullabaloo about reaching this milestone.
