Google Launches Google+: Its Boldest Social Networking Endeavor to Date

Google's failure to capture social networking segment is well documented. Its ex-CEO Eric Schmidt also publicly admitted the company's failure, however, it does not mean that Google would not make multiple attempts to correct the wrong. As with most other Google initiatives, Google+ is public now but only with an 'invite'. Google also did not mince words while writing a blog entry announcing the arrival of new would-be social networking phenomenon.

Google+ is going to use 'discreet' as its USP. The internet search giant lambasted current social networking sites for turning "friendship into fast food-rapping (sic) everyone in ‘friend’ paper". Essentially, Google+ lets you divide your contacts into neat "circles" where you can control which group gets to see which content. So finally, you can spare your granny the trauma of going through weekend party pics.

The other way to classify your contacts is through Sparks, which will give you the discretion to create groups of people who share similar interest. So no more mass torturing of your contacts with the continuous stream of Nyan cat videos! Another feature of the new social networking phenomenon is 'Huddle', that's where you can indulge in group talks. After all chats are more fun when there are more people to argue with!

Google+ also features video chat under its 'Hangouts' feature. Though, no upper limit is mentioned, but this group video chat feature is likely to be able to accommodate up to six users.

So if all this looks interesting to you, you might want to keep a close eye on your Gmail inbox for the invite. If any of you had the chance to go hands-on with this project, do let us know your views about this potential Facebook Killer.

An absolute tech junky, I graduated from the University of Manchester with a degree in Computing and now live on the outskirts of Leeds working with you guessed it, Computers. I love all things gadgety but really dislike wires. For those of you who haven’t worked it out the name of the site is a combination of my nickname (Gaj) and the pronunciation ‘Gadget’.
