MacBook Air Refresh Is Getting Closer According To Best Buy

It was reported back in May that Apple's MacBook Air, the world’s thinnest laptop, would be getting its annual facelift soon.

Following in the footsteps on the Macbook Pro range and iMac many had predicted the upgrade would be we available in May/June.

But no news has come and leads us to believe that July/August would look the more realistic release date.

Many commentators believe that Apple are holding back the laptop until Lion OSX is ready to be released.

It's been reported in several different places around the web today that BestBuy.com has stopped shipping MacBook Air's and haven't re-ordered any of the current model in anticipation of receiving the new stock.

So it’s almost certain that the laptop is being pushed back deliberately so that Apple could incorporate the latest Mac OS X Lion, which is due out in July, into the new machines.

As part of the MacBook Air's facelift, Apple would be upgrading the current Intel Core 2 Dual Processor with the new Sandy Bridge processor which the MacBook Pro has already been graced with. It also looks like the Air's will also be getting a Thunderbolt port, another similarity to the Pro.

The new MacBook Air would seriously benefit from Intel's Sandy Bridge chipset, just like its bigger brother the MacBook Pro and the desktop iMac.

It'll also see a Thunderbolt input drilled into its unibody case, which will allow data transfer speeds of up to 10GB per second.

The sandy bridge processor has made the Macbook Pro and iMac top dog in each of their markets. So it only seems sensible to bring these upgrade to the rest of the family including the MacMini too.
