Microsoft Go Viral or ‘Asleep’ with the new ‘Microsoft Virtual Launch’ marketing campaign

We constantly get emails from media companies harassing us to advertise on the site or for us to promote them. I usually ignore them but this one caught my attention. I’m a keen .net programmer and I’m going to get some training on Microsoft Visual Studio 2008 next week which is probably why I gave it more time than I would normally. But I was quite surprised to see Microsoft’s latest offering to UK viral campaigning called the ‘Microsoft Virtual Launch’. Here’s a sneaky peek at what happened when Microsoft decided to go Viral…

I’ve attended a Microsoft launch event in the past (Microsoft SQL Server 2005, Visual Studio 2005 and BizTalk Server 2006 Launch Event) which is the type of event where the video seems to have been shot and I can tell you this event was well worth attending as Microsoft don’t do things in half. With all the trimmings like live bands, bagging loads of free software and all you can guzzle Innocent smoothies, you would think that Microsoft would come up with something just as good for their viral marketing campaign. However, it looks as though they’ve fallen short off the mark with this video. With their tag line ‘stay ahead your own way, even in your pyjamas?’ All I can say is…I'm sorry Microsoft…you must have been still in your pyjamas and in bed when you made this! It made me feel like I was nodding off into the land of snooze. What did you think of it? Drop us a comment.

Please note that regardless of my comments I’m still a sad Microsoft.net loving geek! :-)

An absolute tech junky, I graduated from the University of Manchester with a degree in Computing and now live on the outskirts of Leeds working with you guessed it, Computers. I love all things gadgety but really dislike wires. For those of you who haven’t worked it out the name of the site is a combination of my nickname (Gaj) and the pronunciation ‘Gadget’.
